A message from the Chairman Gordon Cairns

Dear colleagues,

Announcing new CEO for Woolworths Limited

When I became Chairman of Woolworths, I said that one of my top priorities was strengthening the leadership of the company. Today I am delighted to announce that the Board has appointed Brad Banducci as CEO.

We undertook a rigorous international search process over six months to find the best person to rebuild the Woolworths business and return it to sustainable growth. While there were several strong candidates, the Board was unanimous that Brad was the strongest of the field.

Brad has had 25 years in retail, including 15 years consulting to some of the world’s leading retailers. He has successful private equity experience in a retail turnaround with Cellarmasters. And he has been at Woolworths for five years during which time he led the Dan Murphy’s business to become one of Australia’s great retailers. For the last 12 months he has been leading the turnaround of our supermarkets business.

This makes him uniquely positioned for this role. Brad understands the Australasian market, is totally committed to our customers, has a great track record of growing businesses and developing people, and has huge support within the company.

In light of this announcement, today will be Grant O’Brien’s last day with Woolworths. As you know, Grant announced his plans to step down as CEO mid-last year but has continued in the role while we conducted the search for his replacement.

Grant has served Woolworths for 29 years, starting out as an accountant in Purity supermarkets in Tasmania and progressing his career with Woolworths to become CEO in 2011. I’d like to thank Grant for his significant contribution to the company over the course of his career, and wish him the very best for the future.
